While 2020 was a challenging year for many industries, it marked a milestone for the global PC market, which experienced its highest demand in a decad

According to research firm IDC, global PC shipments in 2020 reached 302 million units, a 13.1% annual growth rate—the highest rate since 2010, when growth hit 13.7%. Another firm, Canalys, pegged the growth slightly lower at 11%, but both agreed that the industry hadn’t seen such demand since the early days of smartphones.

Key Factors Driving Growth:

  • Remote Work: Businesses rapidly equipped employees to work from home.
  • Online Learning: Schools invested heavily in laptops to support virtual education.
  • Affordable Options: Budget-friendly devices like Chromebooks have become essential for households.

“Notebooks and mobile workstations single-handedly drove Worldwide PC market growth in 2020,” noted Canalys. Laptop shipments grew an astonishing 44%, totaling 235.1 million units.

However, as the world adjusted to the new normal, businesses and consumers started looking for cost-effective alternatives to meet their growing technology needs. This shift has led to an increasing interest in refurbished laptops and computers

The global refurbished computer and laptop market is projected to surpass $20 billion by 2025, driven by increasing demand from enterprises, educational institutions, and budget-conscious consumers. Factors contributing to this growth include:

  1. Rising Awareness: Consumers are increasingly aware of refurbished products' environmental and financial benefits.
  2. Business Adoption: Companies are prioritizing refurbished laptops to reduce costs.
  3. Technological Advancement: Improved refurbishment processes and certifications ensure quality and reliability, boosting consumer trust.

The refurbished laptop market is not just meeting demand; it is redefining how we view technology consumption. By 2025, these devices will play an even more significant role in bridging the gap between affordability, quality, and environmental responsibility.
